OCSA Frederick Fennell Winds Camp

Description:

This five-day camp offers wind musicians and percussionists an opportunity to collaborate through the performance of chamber music and wind band repertoire. The students will engage in daily team-bonding activities, informative presentations, and performance opportunities. In tandem, we will split students into brass and woodwind ensembles to provide an intro into chamber music. The final performance will be a culmination of the concepts and pieces covered over the course of the week.

Suggested Experience:

Attendees should have basic to intermediate ability on their instrument. Basic meaning rudimentary music reading skills and sound production. Intermediate meaning sight reading skills, scale knowledge, and at least one private lesson. 

Students will need their own instrument; however instruments may be provided under special circumstances.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

• Do I need my own instrument?

• YES – students will need their own instrument and everything needed to play that instrument (straps, chords, reeds, mouthpieces, etc.). Exceptions only for drum set, piano and upright bass. These instruments will be provided. Guitar and bass amplifiers are also provided. Drum set players need to bring their own drumsticks. Electric bass players will need to bring their own instrument. If you play multiple instruments, choose one to play for the camp.

• If they do not have an instrument, can they still take the course? 

• No. They will need their own instrument unless they play drum set, piano or upright bass.

• Does this class culminate in a step into the classroom culminating event? Yes! This class will have a recital at the end of the final day! Families and friends will be invited to attend.
