Summer Jazz Workshop 2024

Description:

In this one-week course, students will learn the skills to become a better jazz musician. Students will learn classic jazz repertoire with their peers in a small group setting. Each student will have the opportunity to work on both their ensemble and improvisational skills. In addition, students will come away with an understanding of the musical language of jazz and its history. They will also refine their musicianship skills through music listening, ear training, singing and rhythm clapping.

Possess basic fundamental abilities on their instrument (produce consistent tone, major scales)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

• Do I need my own instrument?

• YES – students will need their own instrument and everything needed to play that instrument (straps, chords, reeds, mouthpieces, etc.). Exceptions only for drum set, piano and upright bass. These instruments will be provided. Guitar and bass amplifiers are also provided. Drum set players need to bring their own drumsticks. Electric bass players will need to bring their own instrument. If you play multiple instruments, choose one to play for the camp.

• If they do not have an instrument, can they still take the course? 

• No. They will need their own instrument unless they play drum set, piano or upright bass.

• Does this class culminate in a step into the classroom culminating event? Yes! This class will have a recital at the end of the final day! Families and friends will be invited to attend.
